Model United Nations
The United Nations; An international organization formed in 1945 to increase political and economic cooperation among its member countries. This is an organization that makes an effort to maintain world peace and stability and is working together to provide a future for humanity. This was founded after the event of WW2, the UN further tries to prevent war and ensure cooperation and success with global issues. For our project we created a mock model united nations, each student in the class was assigned a country and we had to research on how the effects of climate change will have on our countries. The UN deals with worldwide issues, such as refugee crisis, war, and one of the most relevant issues of our time is global warming. In the UN there consists of 193 party members who all play an equal role in the general assembly. Then there is the P5 (Peremenat 5). These are the Victors of WW2. China, France, United States, Russia, and the United Kingdom. The reason these countries have so much power is that when an amendment or resolution is being introduced, the P5 have to agree with it, all 5 of them. For this project, I was assigned the role of being the delegates for the People Republic of Bangladesh. From this experience, I learned about the agriculture, homes, and coastal nations such as Bangladesh being threatened by rising sea level due to global warming. The conference that we had was a great learning experience, it was amazing to really see how the relevant issues in our time, and how we can all take action to make a change.
In our MUN project, our class explored one of the most relevant issues in our timeline and how to take control of the situation as we are moving on into our adulthood and out of these high school years. As a student, I am very impressed with our actual meeting that took place at the college. I’m proud in my teacher for organizing the event, I am proud of my peers for the amount of effort they put into this project, and I'm very proud of myself for exhibiting my policy paper speech so well. My public speaking skills could definitely be worked on. In the exhibition, I stood up in front of all the students and parents, calm and steady. All of this professional behavior was a necessity for our MUN meeting. Gaining knowledge about the UN is helpful to not just me, but for the viewers of the conference. Showing that our strengths will be of use as we shift into our adulthood. Overall the MUN meeting was very rigorous, there were some very fun aspects to it!
MUN conference has had a tremendous impact on my perspective of the issues that revolve around me and the people of this world. Some issues have impacted specific things in this world more so than others. Climate change was a very engaging topic for me, thus giving it all my attention. As this project comes to an end, I turn away with an enormous amount of knowledge and gains going into the future with more understanding on why this world need to share, collaborate, have equality, and to assist one another is an indispensable.
