Why Animas?
I felt the necessities for high school success was to make the change to Animas High. I came to this school for hands on learning. High school is the place of transformation from a teenager to a young adult. This is the place that will influence the rest of your life. The student teacher relations is out of this world, I can talk to any of my teachers about assignments or personal issues. A smaller school really gave me a more personal relationship with my teachers and my peers. The learning style is definitively for me, all of the content is hands on. For once I can wake up in the morning happy to go to school.

My switch to Animas High School has benefited me in many ways, giving me a new perspective on my life and the things around me. A new School! Animas High School is for me!!! I'm so excited to have legitimate bonds with my teachers. I feel as if they are just good general people and want to generally connect with you on a human level, which at a typical school they aren't or they don’t have as much time. My Digital Arts teacher Roxy guided me throughout my semester, and I find it amazing that she cares so much about her students. At this school I connect with my teachers and peers on a friendly level, but on a professional level as well. At AHS I continue to explore new, relevant topics that I enjoy, like creating new visual art pieces in Digital Arts, and how we told a story for a final in Humanities, and how we learned how to make a digital spreadsheet in math. All my teachers make their own curriculum, which I find amazing as it benefits me because the teachers are interested in their subject. Animas has opened up many opportunities for my future by making me more independent because the work is more rigorous and has lead me in the right direction towards adulthood.
Driving, I just got my permit and It is now opening up a lot of opportunity and freedom for not only me but my friends and family. I will be able to drive this summer and will be able to get myself to work! I will have the responsibility in my hands, will be getting to school on time everyday. Gaining this, I will have matured into the real world and accept more that my actions do have consequences. My teachers and parents are holding me accountable for my grades. So if I keep my grades up, I will be able to drive.
Skateboarding is a huge aspect of my life, I skate everyday and learn and progress. I use my skateboard as my transportation and hope to learn more skills and tricks as I grow older. I enjoy skateboarding because I can express myself in the way I ride. My school has produced a community to support my skating. I've only started one year ago. When I wake up, I enjoy coming to school. I have a place. I feel like I’m part of something because it makes my academics positive when I have something that I enjoy that I can do everyday.
I Think one problem that I need to work on is talking less. I will strive to be more on topic next semester and put in work and buckle down. When I have homework I will actually dedicate my day to that work. In math I especially procrastinate when it comes down to homework so that is definitely one thing that I’m going to work on next semester. I will establish a deal of some sort with my math teacher.
I am not too passionate on some subjects especially math, and a lot of time in humanities ally will assign something an I will just let it slip away from me. So next semester I will make a great effort to stay more attentive and on task. Formulas and numbers, I will let them go into one ear and right out the other.
What will my upperclassmen years be like? Will I still have the passion for a free education? This is my first year of Animas High School so I’m new. So I want the thrill to live on until I graduate.
